Manchester United vs. Arsenal

In this all-England matchup there is truly only one king. Manchester United should make some quick work of Arsenal and move quickly into the Finals with a chance to repeat in Rome as the Champions of Europe.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Carlos Tevez should have their way on the pitch against a porous Arsenal defense missing captain William Gallas, who is out the rest of the season with an injury.

Arsenal has great options up front to attack with Emmanuel Adebayor and Theo Walcott, so I don’t expect this to be a blowout. But if both Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic are healthy in the defense for United, then Edwin van der Sar could easily rack up another pair of clean sheets for Sir Alex Ferguson.

Arse Wenger will remind Arsenal of its win over United at the Emirates back in November and it may be possible that the young Gunners will come out firing on all cylinders and surprise all. With the final leg at the Emirates, the London side will try to play for a draw and look to score on counter-attack in the first leg and hope to be in line to make a push for the finals at home.

Prediction:

Leg 1: Manchester United 1-0 Arsenal

Leg 2: Manchester United 2-1 Arsenal

Barcelona vs. Chelsea

There will not be a rematch in Rome thanks to the world’s best player, Lionel Messi. He is in the form of his life and gets to tee off against a depleted Chelsea defense in the first leg with left-back Ashley Cole suspended because of yellow cards after the Nou Camp clash. Messi should lead Barca to a demolition similar to the pounding it put on Bayern Munich in the Quarter-finals. Messi is a football genius and should show his creativity and will to win on the pitch.

Barcelona has all but wrapped up the La Liga title, sitting six points clear of Real Madrid with eight games remaining in the season. Its sole focus is on the Champions League at this point and its players will be well-rested going into the fixtures, while Chelsea is fighting for the Premier League and the FA Cup. Barcelona possesses a solid midfield and an impenetrable defense lead by Carlos Puyol.

The attacking options for the Blues with Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka should give Barca a test in the second leg at Stamford Bridge, but at this point it could be too late for Chelsea. The Blues are unlikely to see Michael Essien and Salomon Kalou display the form they did in the first leg against Liverpool in the Quarters, so it will be up to the core trio of captain John Terry, Michael Ballack and Frank Lampard to will them to victory.

If Barcelona takes advantage of Ashley Cole’s absence and goalkeeper Petr Cech’s dip in form (allowing seven goals in the last two matches), all will be over before the second leg is played out in North London and Chelsea will have come up short of its ultimate goal yet again.

Prediction:

Leg 1: Barcelona 4-1 Chelsea

Leg 2: Barcelona 1-2 Chelsea
